1st Edition – Brisbane Bar

Whether you are out with the lads or chillin’ with the girls, this Marvel and DC inspired bar is definitely one to keep in your back pocket for occasions that could be described as a little left of field. It really doesn’t matter if you are a Marvel maverick or a doyen of DC, both are supported equally (as is the seemingly perfect balance between hero and villain) in both delightful menu items and brilliantly theme decor.

Would you care for a drink, sir

The drinks menu is smart, extremely smart. Take your classics, provide an excellent twist in the shape of flavour AND presentation, then take a funky comic themed name and attribute it to said drink. The Mysterio comes to you with a passion infused bubble (akin to that worn by the hero/villain of Marvel fame and tastefully decorates the Butter Vodka, Peach syrup, apple, passionfruit and whites which make up an extremely delicious drink. Storms old fashioned, might not come with a lightning storm, but a glass covering filled with smoke to infuse the all-ready seemingly smouldering Woodford reserve rye whiskey. Accompanied by a sugar cube, orange chocolate bitters & cheery smoked wood chips, the drinks are decadent, delightful and definitely entertaining in their own right.

Dr Strange
Flash Meringue

Care for a bite to eat?

The bar staff are an absolute wonder. Steve (with a ph, but corrected here for a)shits and giggles and b)easy of understanding) was excellent – great comedic timing, perfectly poured libations, artistic presentation of food that goes beyond a salt bae sprinkle (I watched the man mixing up some sriracha mayonnaise and he made that into a show of and in itself). The seating of 1st edition definitely makes it difficult to be too serious (hence the joker catch-cry in their branding – “why…so…serious), but it also forces you to oversee all of the action – drinks being poured, shakers being shaken/shook/shaked, flames were being applied to various meats to be eaten or meringue on cocktails, bubbles were being blown, smoke was being….smoked – all of this in aid of flavours and entertainment…..and both were captured both perfectly and with what seemed like both casual easy and vivacious flair.

So….Marvel or DC

To be hoenest, who bloody cares. They were both equally represented at 1st Edition quite well, with a smattering of both Marvel AND DC legends to keep the tastebuds flowing and the desire for additional drinks humming. In between the decor, the drinks, the food and the general atmosphere, you will enjoy the absolute crap out of your time at 1st Edition regardless of the occassion…….Marvel, Marvel all the way baby.
